Project Next Step Conference (PNSC) is held in August, just prior to the beginning of the school year. PNSC includes over 800 junior/middle school honor roll 8th grade graduates from Kern County who are transitioning to the schools in KHSD. Prior to PNSC in 2017, 67.7% of the 2015 graduates maintained high school honor roll status in high school college prep classes; 57.7% of the 2016 graduates maintained high school honor roll status in high school college prep classes. Our goal is to increase the percentage to over 70% of the 2017 students to maintain high school honor roll status in high school college prep classes while on the pathway to complete college requirements upon graduation. We have seen measurable success and we are now seeking to expand the program to support the students’ academic achievement and increase the parents’ involvement in their students’ goals.
