Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The goal of the Kool Boiz Foundation is to increase the college and career readiness of boys and young men of color. Our objectives are:
1. To explore the paths of what's possible for boys and young men of color with respect to future financial stability and personal success.
2. To provide a platform for boys and young men of color to engage in dialogue with various speakers and community leaders to explore possible solutions for creating an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable future.
3. To increase the awareness of long-term success through targeted “Marketable Skill" post-high school education including college and trade schools.
4. To develop a college-going culture as early as middle school to change the trajectory of high school completion and college enrollment for boys and young men of color.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Addressing the challenges of boys and young men of color in the communities we serve requires a comprehensive approach and will need to include multiple stakeholders including school district leaders, city officials, youth organizations, business leaders, and the youth themselves. We believe our collaborative, inter-generational approach to these challenges will result in successful change in some of the lead indicators that point to future success. They we will make an impact is through our Promising Men Mentoring Program, our Empowerment Conferences, and our College Scholarship Fund.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Kool Boiz Foundation
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
To date, we have awarded thousands of dollars in college scholarships and launched our Promising Men Mentoring Program with 5th and 6th grade boys at the Youngstown Community School.

- We disaggregate data to adjust programming goals to keep pace with changing needs of the communities we support.
- We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
- We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
- We have a promotion process that anticipates and mitigates implicit and explicit biases about people of color serving in leadership positions.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
