Mission

• TO provide temporary shelter to stray, abandoned, and surrendered animals for the purpose of finding permanent suitable new homes. • TO provide assistance and financial aid to prevent overpopulation through spaying and neutering programs. • TO support a healthy pet community by providing general veterinary services at low or no cost to those unable to afford care for their pets. • TO promote life-long responsible pet ownership to residents within our community through educational brochures, seminars, tours and special events. • TO establish cross-referral networks with local “for profit” veterinary doctors, clinics, and non-profit rescue groups. • TO provide assistance and information to others whose purposes are consistent with the purpose of the Wilson County No-Kill Animal Shelter.

The Wilson County No-Kill Animal Shelter, Inc. (WCNKAS) is a no-kill, non-profit charitable 501c(3) organization that aims to provide innovative programs and services to help animals in Wilson County, Texas. Wilson County is part of the San Antonio–New Braunfels, Texas metropolitan statistical area. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 808 square miles and a population of nearly 50,000. Adjacent counties include: Bexar, Atascosa, Karnes, Gonzales, and Guadalupe. Wilson County No-Kill Animal Shelter aims to be a model shelter, addressing the issue of pet over-population by providing solutions through services and prevention through education. We aim to be the exemplary shelter for the South Texas Region by executing exceptional business and service practices.

Snip Snip Hooray!

Provide assistance and financial aid, based on availability of funds, to residents of Wilson County to curb pet overpopulation through spaying and neutering. WCNKAS has developed a partnership with local veterinarians to offer low cost spay, neuter, vaccinations, and microchipping.

Promote life-long responsible pet ownership to residents within our community through educational brochures, seminars, tours and special events. This includes certifying the shelter as an approved organization for probationers and at-risk youth to obtain community service hours and fulfill their release requirements.

Year-round reading program for children ages 6 to 17 to sharpen their reading skill while socializing shelter animals and instilling greater empathy in the children.

Annual summer camp for children ages 6 to 17. This community service summer camp is a great opportunity for children to receive a unique learning experience about the humane treatment and care of domestic and wild animals. Attendees will participate in workshops, crafts, games, service projects, animal expert presentations, and hands-on animal experiences.
