Mission

The Ticked Off Foundation, Inc. is dedicated to the prevention, awareness, and patient support of Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses that have become the fastest-growing infectious diseases in the United States. Our mission is to provide financial assistance and treatment support to Lyme and tick-borne disease patients over the age of 26 who are in crisis. We do this through grants and counseling in an effort to stem the tide of Lyme-related suicides. According to Dr. Joseph Jemsek (MD from Washington, DC), "The most common cause of death in Lyme disease is suicide." Through our efforts and support through generous donations and sponsors, we hope to put this reality in the past.

What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Lyme disease and tick-borne diseases are the fastest-spreading infectious diseases of the 21st Century. Akin to the Polio and AIDS epidemic in the last century, Lyme needs immediate assistance regarding better diagnostics and treatments, research funding and patient support. The Ticked Off Foundation was originated by and is propelled by Lyme disease survivors, who are striving to end the suffering of this misunderstood and tragic illness. Since launching, the Ticked Off Foundation has developed a national and international media footprint. The Ticked Off Foundation, the Ticked Off Music Fest (benefit concert series) and Recycle for Lyme, are now well-known entities in the Lyme disease community as well as in the national public awareness. We have received attention from such media outlets as The Huffington Post, LA Weekly, Baltimore Sun, Jacksonville Times-Union, Wilmington News Journal, WBAL-TV Baltimore, Connecticut News 12, KGMB Hawaii News Now, Sunrise Honolulu and more.

Our programs

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Recycle for Lyme

The Recycle For Lyme program is a combined effort of the Ticked Off Foundation and TerraCycle®. Participants (individuals, Lyme groups, clubs or companies) collect specific materials/containers, ordinarily destined for the land fill or incinerators and not considered traditional recyclable material. Once the shippable amount has been accumulated, participants request a prepaid UPS label and simply drop off the full boxes to ship to TerraCycle. As each new box rolls in, recycle points are accumulated and converted into cash donations sent directly to the Ticked Off Foundation's tax-exempt patient fund. With this new influx of donations, the foundation can bestow grants to the growing list of Lyme patients currently in crisis and reaching out to us.

Not only will these efforts help save the environment by recycling material not ordinarily handled by traditional recycling plants and therefore destined for the landfill or incinerators, but each piece converts into a direct donation to our Lyme disease patient fund! This is a WIN/WIN situation.

The Ticked Off Music Fest is a U.S. concert series dedicated to the prevention, awareness and patient support of Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses that have become the fastest-growing infectious diseases in the country – six times faster-spreading than HIV/AIDS.

Launched in 2012, The Ticked Off Music Fest is the only ongoing music event solely focused on Lyme disease education, awareness and fundraising that travels to trouble spots around the country.

The series is designed to hold events in different regions of the country where tick-borne disease awareness is low but incidence of infection is high.

We alternate Lyme disease speakers with musical talent onstage and include fundraising efforts to create uplifting, positive events.

Each festival is 5-6 hours in duration and full of information presented by doctors, Lyme researchers, authors, & foundation leaders, interpolated with high-quality musical performances.

These festivals have created a patented formula that has been financially, philanthropically and educationally successful, reaching into communities; bringing music, joy, healing, and support to those suffering as well as raising funds for Lyme disease research.

We have visited Wilmington, DE, Jacksonville, FL, Annapolis, MD, Los Angeles, CA, Honolulu, HI and Woolwich, ME so far. The series is seeking sponsors for individual city locations as well as annual series sponsors who value national exposure.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

The Ticked Off Foundation is dedicated to the prevention, awareness, and support for patients with Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses that have become the fastest-growing infectious diseases in the United States.

Our mission is to provide financial assistance and support to Lyme and tick-borne disease patients over the age of 26 who are in crisis. We do this through grants and counseling in an effort to stem the tide of Lyme-related suicides. According to Dr. Joseph Jemsek (MD from Washington, DC), “The most common cause of death in Lyme disease is suicide.” Through our efforts and support through generous donations and sponsors, we hope to put this reality in the past.

In 2012, Gregg Kirk created the Ticked Off Music Fest to become the only ongoing music series solely focused on Lyme disease education, awareness and fundraising. Its focus is to go to areas where the rate of infection is high but awareness is low.

In 2015, Kirk also founded the Ticked Off Foundation, a Lyme support organization whose mission is to provide financial assistance and support to Lyme disease patients over the age of 26 who are in crisis. The organization does this through grants and counseling in an effort to stem the tide of Lyme-related suicides.

In 2016, he co-founded the Recycle for Lyme program that enables participants to collect non-traditional recyclables, ship them to a recycling facility for free, and in turn generate donations to the Ticked Off Foundation non-profit organization, who funds Lyme patients in crisis. Those who join can help save the planet while helping sick Lyme patients for free. It’s a win/win!

In 2017, Kirk created and launched LymeKnowledge.com, an easy-to-understand web resource written by him and several Lyme patients to help broadcast the most accurate and up-to-date information on Lyme prevention, symptoms, diagnosis & treatments.

Our organization's current capabilities are the following:

- Event organizing & public fundraising
- Nationwide recycling programs
- Lyme disease patient counseling & financial support
- Public education of the many facets of chronic Lyme disease
- Lyme disease patient advocacy

Since launching our first show in 2013, The Ticked Off Music Fest continues to be the only ongoing music event solely focused on Lyme disease education, awareness and fundraising that travels to trouble spots around the country. We go to areas where the rate of infection is high but awareness is low.

The events have created a patented formula that has been financially, philanthropically and educationally successful, reaching into communities; bringing music, joy, healing, and support to those suffering as well as raising funds for Lyme disease research and patient support.

We have visited Wilmington, DE, Jacksonville, FL, Annapolis, MD, Los Angeles, CA, Honolulu, HI, Woolwich, ME, and Richmond, VA so far and have plans to throw other events across the country this year. The series is seeking sponsors for individual city locations as well as annual series sponsors who value national exposure.

Since launching in 2016 the Recycle for Lyme program has collected tons of non-traditional recyclables and generated thousands of dollars for the treatment of Lyme disease patients in crisis.

Since launching in 2015, the Ticked Off Foundation has helped hundreds of patients of Lyme disease recover from illness and avoid financial struggles as a result of funding Lyme disease treatment. For a snapshot of testimonials, go to: https://www.tickedofffoundation.org/testimonials/
