What we aim to solve
There are many unwanted and abandoned pugs in Korea due to the pug’s size (grows too big for apartment living), shedding and lifestyles that don’t suit dog ownership. Read more here: pugrescueofkorea.org/post/why-are-there-so-many-unwanted-pugs-in-korea. We are seeking grants that will allow us to continue rescue pugs and fly them from Seoul, South Korea to the United States. Snub-nosed dogs (like pugs) in Korea are in high danger of euthanization due to several airlines’ policy changes to prohibit them from flying overseas. We are now limited to just 2 airlines that will transport pugs, Asiana Air and Lufthansa, and both have extraordinarily high costs.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Rehoming Rescue Pugs from South Korea
While every attempt is made to keep the pugs in their country of origin, their re-home rate in Korea is very low. In these instances, the pugs are then flown to Los Angeles, California to find forever homes.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We are seeking grants to offset the 120% increase in transportation costs in flying pugs from South Korea to their forever homes in the US. Since the pandemic started, airline cargo fares have increased from $500 to now $1300 for one pug to fly to the US.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
With the generous gift of a grant, we can continue saving these pugs and finding forever homes. We hope you’ll consider Pug Rescue of Korea during your grant funding process.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We have two full-time volunteers based in the Los Angeles area and three full-time volunteers (including our rescuer) in South Korea. Our priority is providing medical care and a safe foster home environment. We do not have a physical facility and rely entirely on our foster network throughout South Korea and Southern California.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We are Pug Rescue of Korea, a rescue group dedicated to saving pugs from euthanasia and the dog meat market. We rescue and rehabilitate unwanted, neglected and abandoned pugs in South Korea, and after bringing these pugs to good health, we find them forever homes in South Korea and the US. (The majority of our adoptions are to homes in the US, and those adoptions in South Korea are to U.S. military families stationed there.)
Since 2009, Pug Rescue of Korea has rescued and found forever homes for over 650 pugs (and the occasional French Bulldog). We:
• Achieved 501(c)(3) status in September 2018
• Increased our rescue and rehome rate by 30% on average YOY
• Increased fundraising
