What we aim to solve
Sailing has a long tradition of providing character building life experiences to young people in a fun and safe outdoor environment. The discipline of training and the decision-making skills acquired while sailing serve a child through out their lives. Youth sailing programs have a tremendous positive effect on the children and young adults who participate in them, the communities that support and surround them, and the volunteers, staff and coaches that make them possible. However, it is an expensive sport, requiring equipment for sailors, waterfront access, trained coaches, and potential travel. Historically, sailing has not been accessible to everyone. Our goal is to open sailing to any child who has interest. That requires scholarships for tuition, funds for equipment, and sometimes special considerations to children who might experience the world differently.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Sergio's Wayfinders
Our program started when a young man, Sergio, on the autism spectrum learned to sail in a recreational sailing program at Palm Beach Sailing Club. He enjoyed sailing so much, he asked if we could create a program to help him share his love of sailing with others like himself, “Just because people are different doesn’t mean they won’t love sailing”, we agreed and went to work.
We sat down with his family, educators, and sailing instructors to find the best way of providing a safe nurturing environment while delivering sailing instruction to kids on the autism spectrum. In 2019 Sergio’s Wayfinders was born. We created a multi-sensory educational program using group instruction, hands on learning, repetition, and songs to give participants basic introduction to the parts of a sailboat, points of sail, and the fundamentals of sailing. The methods of instruction are tailored to each participants
needs. It is structured so parents and children sail together to create a shared experience.
Adventure Sailing
Created in 2020, our newest program, Adventure Sailing is designed for at-risk youth in Palm Beach County with the goal of encouraging leadership, community involvement, and career opportunities in the Marine Industries. Sailing teaches life-long lessons that promote self-awareness, respect for the community and environment through good sportsmanship, safety awareness, leadership, honesty, teamwork and ethical behavior.
We are currently building long-term relationships with the Marine Industries to help Adventure Sailing equip at-risk youth with a sense of purpose and the skills they need to lead positive and productive lives.
Financial Assistance
In addition to our flagship programs we can offer financial assistance for youth programs at Palm Beach Sailing Club. Some of these programs are the year round Learn to Sail classes and racing programs.
For those sailors looking to compete at national and international competitions we offer assistance through our Competitive Grant application. Anyone applying for this grant must be a resident of Palm Beach County.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our goal is to sustain and expand our current programs to reach more underserved and at-risk youths in Palm Beach County by providing the opportunity to experience the joys of sailing. We see firsthand the confidence and self-reliance that comes from learning to sail. The kids also experience the wonders of the Lake Worth Lagoon and the natural environment in ways they may have never experienced before.
Expanding our programs also involves expanding our community outreach and partnerships. We have recently been fortunate to include the City of West Palm Beach Police Athletic League and US Sailing Siebel Sailors Program as our newest partners.
By expanding our community outreach we can increase participation in our programs to better serve the needs of the local underserved and at-risk youth in Palm Beach County.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Community involvement is a key to expanding our programs. By creating new relationships or building on existing relationships we can gain further support for our foundation to help the youth of Palm Beach County.
Our primary fundraiser is our annual gala held in November.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Our Board is led and administered by a group of volunteers who have seen the positive impact on children who have participated in sailing programs.
Since our founding in 2015 we have worked to create a sustainable program structure by providing infrastructure and funding for existing programs in our community as well as our own programs.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?

In November 2021 we partnered with US Sailing Siebel Sailors Program. The Siebel Sailors Program is designed to increase diversity and opportunity in the sport of sailing.
