Angels Wings Transport

aka Angel's Wings   |   University Place, WA   |  https://awtrescue.org/

Mission

Angel's Wings coordinates transport of displaced animals, medical patients in financial need and Military Veterans from an airport closest to the point of origination to an airport closest to the destination through the use of general aviation aircraft.

By using private or corporate planes, we have the ability to fly into not only commercial airports, but also small local airstrips.

There is never a fee to the sending or receiving organization.

Angel's Wings arranges free air transportation on private aircraft in response to pet overpopulation, health care and other compelling human needs.

Animal Rescue Transport

Angel's Wings transport animals that are in danger of being euthanized from kill shelters to no kill rescues or their final adopted families. These transports are completed by the use of private airplanes to offer the greatest amount of flexibility and to maximize the number of animals transported in one trip to keep the cost per animal as low as possible.

•ANGEL’S WINGS will provide transport for rescue animals from the suitable airport closest to your location to the airport nearest your destination through the use of volunteer pilots who fly their own planes.

ANGEL’S WINGS volunteers fly general aviation aircraft that are single engine or twin engine. Animals need to be of a size and weight that fits comfortably into a small plane.

•Long transports present special challenges. Transports of over 500 miles require special planning and may require ground transportation for intermediate stops. Many times, the best way to transport an animal is by a combination of ground and air.

•ANGEL’S WINGS will be responsible for the transport of an animal from airport to airport. Responsibility for any ground transportation, overnight fostering or long term fostering is the responsibility of the rescue requesting the transport and must be arranged in advance.

• ANGEL’S WINGS puts the safety of our pilot volunteers above all else. Many factors such as ice, wind, fog, rain, snow, dust, pilot health, family emergencies, and aircraft mechanical problems can cause a flight cancellation.

•Weather conditions along the entire route of flight are considered before the final decision to launch or cancel the flight is made.

•ANGEL’S WINGS will not transport an animal that has been sedated, unless it is a medical transport and the veterinarian has administered the sedative and given specific directions. ANGEL’S WINGS pilots check on how the animal is doing during flight by talking to them, reaching into the kennel to pet them, etc. If the animal is sedated, the reactions of the animal are not normal. Secondly, a sedated animal will not give indications if they are having difficulty.

•At refueling stops, your pet is walked, fed (if needed) and receives water.

ANGEL’S WINGS will do its best to follow any special instructions which are given for the care of the animal in transport. All transports requiring, medical care will be evaluated on an individual basis.

ANGEL’S WINGS is not capable of providing in-flight veterinary care. Animals that are under a veterinarians care will need to be evaluated as to whether the transport can be successfully done. In the event of a medical transport, detailed veterinary instructions and / or medication and documentation must accompany injured or ill animals for the duration of the journey to their destination.

Population(s) Served
Adults

Angel’s Wings serves a wide variety of needs. All are intended for situations in which the passenger cannot afford to purchase commercial airline tickets, or when travel by land or commercial airline would be a physical hardship.

Our flights generally fall in to one of these categories:

Medical Transport
Flights for travel to and from medical treatment. Patients with all medical conditions that are ambulatory and medically stable are accepted.

Compassion
Flights for those persons traveling to provide caregiving for an ill family member or friend, and travel to visit a seriously or terminally ill family member.

Blood, Organ, and Tissue Donations
Transport of blood, blood products, organs and/or tissue to and from hospitals or other agencies.

Disaster Response
After floods, earthquakes and other disasters, Angel’s Wings can dispatch aircraft to the disaster site to help relocate displaced residents, to transport small amounts of relief supplies, and to transport rescue workers and/or search dogs.

Population(s) Served
People with diseases and illnesses

Angel’s Wings Transport exists to ensure that no wounded warrior, veteran, or affected family member is denied access to medical care, is unable to acquire a service animal, be at their loved one’s bedside or attend the funeral of their child, parent or spouse due to insufficient travel funds.

Angel’s Wings is committed to supporting Veterans of all periods from the oldest WWII vet to the youngest recruit. You do not need to have deployed to a war zone or have served during wartime to benefit from our services.

Our missions can be conducted in a couple of ways:
•Commercial airline tickets donated by the airline or purchased by Angel’s Wings Transport.
•General Aviation (Private Planes)

General Aviation flights are donated by the aircraft owner and depending on what is available and what the mission requires, may be provided by a business jet or a small single engine, propeller driven private plane . This allows Angel’s Wings the ability to pick up our guests in their own home town and possibly land closer to the final destination then a commercial airliner will allow.

Angel’s Wings Transport, like all nonprofits, is at the mercy of donors. While we desire to help everyone with a financial need, from time to time, a lack of funding may limit our ability to provide services.
