What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

One in five children are at risk for some form of abuse, yet just one out of ten will make an outcry. Symptoms of abuse are often overlooked, or misunderstood by adults. When children are ready to disclose, they should be believed, supported and served in a trauma informed approach. This issue is a sensitive topic and difficult for many to embrace.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Our primary goal is to reach every child victim of abuse that needs us, offer every service recommended for them, and make every effort to provide the highest level of trauma informed care as possible.

The organization offers a collaborative approach to responding to child victims of abuse by leveraging a multi-disciplinary team strategy . Partner agencies include DFPS, Law Enforcement, the District Attorney's office, and medical professionals. Together we offer case coordination, forensic interviewing, family advocacy, and mental health services. The process streamlines an often complex and confusing process, and minimizes re-victimization. Mental Health services are offered to the primary victim as well as siblings and non-offending, caregivers. Modalities utilized include trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, filial therapy, and play therapy.

A signed memorandum of understanding is in place with all partner agencies. Collectively, working protocols have been developed that define criteria for the types of cases the team will coordinate and conduct joint investigations. Staff is specifically trained on the various direct service areas, and works with clients between three and eighteen years of age, and with adults with developmental delays.

As a newly formed entity, the team is learning to communicate and understand how best to leverage services as part of case coordination. Since opening for full services in April of 2018 the Children's advocacy Center for Rockwall County has served over 2000 unduplicated children and their families.
