Professional Cultural performances

"An Evening with Frederick Douglass"
These performances are funded in part by a grant from the Virginia Beach Arts and Humanities Commission, in partnership with the Zeiders American Dream Theater and Business sponsors. Nationally recognized author and poet, Nathan Richardson gave an excellent interactive performance. through reenactment of Frederick Douglass' speeches and novels.
The audience got a moment to glimpse into his world portraying the strong personality and character of this famous abolitionist, orator and elected official. The audience which is multi cultural and multi generational
learn about Douglass' struggle for freedom, justice and a passion for knowledge. VAACC always set aside tickets for under-served families to get an opportunity to enjoy these stellar performances.

VAACC has an established partnership with several public schools, Libraries and Community organizations which we annually do historical presentations, display artifacts, set up booth displays with hands-on demonstrations for the youth or community members. We also partner with the City through the Virginia Beach Cultural Affairs Department and VAACC in partnership commissioned two Historic Artwork; " Portraits From A Place of Grace" by artist Richard Holland from Connecticut Free large standing Circular Portraits of 18 Members from the 14 Historic Black neighborhoods in Virginia Beach. it also included an online recordings of stories from each of the members portrayed.
The 2nd example were linocut portraits designed by High school youths depicting various famous people, past and present from Virginia Beach.
