What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Kali's Klubhouse recognizes that children with disabilities need the opportunity to participate in outdoor events. Due to the sheer number of therapies they experience each week, they can greatly benefit from non-clinical forms of therapies. We recognize that youth need a place to feel safe and included, where they can learn, grow and develop career skills while understanding how to make wise career choices. We recognize that our veterans need an environment where they can feel at peace, where they are socially involved and where they feel needed. We realize that many horses are in need of a place where they can live out the rest of their days in useful, un strenuous careers and be well cared for.

I Talk with Horses

Therapeutic Riding for children with physical and mental disabilities.

Population(s) Served

An Equine Assisted Learning Program for youth at risk. Partnering with horses who present themselves as metaphors for lives challenges, youth learn to apply the 7 keys to their every day lives. 1. I have a positive attitude
2. I believe in myself
3. I build positive habits
4. I make wise choices
5. I set and achieve goals
6. I use my imagination
7. I am persistent
Modified from Go For It! Family Program
The program outline challenges the group to become a team. It includes Equine Experiential Education sessions where horses become the metaphor for life’s challenges and youth discover- through unique equine activities, how to apply the 7 Keys to Success to their everyday lives. They each pair up with a Fargnoli Farms riders with special needs, and work through the summer with that child. Mentoring our riders with special needs gives our youth a sense of pride and accomplishment. They are encouraged to journal the experience and are guided through the process of journaling and documentation. They plan and execute a family fun day for the riders and their families which is put on in the last week of August. The youth decide on a theme and design activities around that theme. For instance, in 2016 their theme was “under the sea”. Our horses became “sea Horses” Our indoor riding arena became a fun day setting with nine themed booths with crafts and games. There were 72 attendees. Planning this event incorporates all the 7 keys to success They learn they possess the power to make a difference in their own lives and in the lives of others.

Population(s) Served

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Our organization wished to create a circle of healing, where each participant positively affects the wellbeing of the next. Where humans and horses work side by side to heal and care for each other.

Our strategies are to care for horses and people, providing education and care through the partnership of volunteers and program participants.

Our organization has the ability to comfortably house 24 horses in stalls and has 10 turn out areas. We have two classrooms and have access to physical therapists, certified equine professionals and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who all work and volunteer at our facility.

We are collaborating with the biomedical engineering department of a local college providing experiential learning for those learning to build medical devices. Among other things, they have successfully built a lift that allows us to assist larger riders on to their mounts. We have collaborated with another college providing clinical rotations for the department of speech-language and audiology. Horses work as the motivator. Non-verbal children are learning to use alternative and augmentative forms of communication while graduate students are experiencing first hand how to work with these children. Utilizing real horsepower We have served over 145 families and individuals in our community.
