What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Start Giving Local addresses 3 key problems: 1) Nonprofit fundraising today is inefficient and overly reliant on a small percentage of the population: by empowering individuals and small businesses to easily volunteer and give on behalf of any 501(c)3 charity we hope to diversify the fundraising channels available to nonprofit organizations and create a more connected less redundant nonprofit eco-system 2)Although people are more globally connected than ever before in history there is a growing problem with loneliness, depression and anxiety. Through our participation in fun runs, marathons, cycling events and other social nonprofit sponsored activities we hope to connect individuals from across communities to a larger connected network of people with shared interests and goals. 3)Disease has a significant impact on community wellness. We create programming that helps individuals live high-quality, longer lives free of preventable disease, disability, injury, and premature death.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Start Giving Local Volunteer Athlete Training Program

Our Volunteer Athlete Training Program is designed to connect, inspire & empower individuals fundraising for charity through their participation in endurance sports.

Unlike most Endurance Fundraising Programs our sponsored athletes have no fundraising minimum threshold and are provided with comprehensive fundraising tools and support. All athletes running on the Start Giving Local team have the ability to choose to represent a second charity partner organization and to fundraise to directly support their program efforts. We believe that by eliminating fundraising minimums and enabling individuals to leverage every race as a fundraising channel, we will create a more diverse and consistent volunteer athlete community.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

We Believe: Giving Should Be Easy!

We are committed to making it easy for individuals, makers and small businesses to efficiently support the nonprofits they care about.

We bring people with shared interests and common goals together to support personal wellness goals, amplify achievement and reduce isolation.

The use of "Local" in our organization name is a recognition that in today's digital world, community is defined not by geography but by points of connection and commonality.

We sincerely believe that in community every voice should be valued. By empowering individuals, local makers and small businesses to support nonprofits they are passionate about through our programming we are creating an actionable path to a philanthropic giving community that is as diverse and inclusive as the communities being served by the nonprofits we collectively support.

Start Giving Local applies best practices in nonprofit fundraising, digital marketing, technology implementation and community development.

Our philanthropic programs and technology solutions make giving easy by:
- Providing nonprofits with a simple, self-managing viral fundraising channel
- Enabling businesses to easily manage & advertise charitable giving
- Connecting individuals and inspiring community through wellness, sport & fitness
- Encouraging makers to create with confidence for a community that cares

We are a team of volunteers with collective personal and professional expertise in entrepreneurship, endurance sports, digital marketing, corporate development, and social work. We have a deep personal connection to bridging the gaps and inefficiencies we see in the current philanthropic and community giving space. Our volunteers are personally connected to our mission and leverage their personal expertise and passion to help advance our team progress.

We are committed to building a transparent nonprofit that leverages the innovations that technology enables without losing sight of the importance of personal community relationships.

Start Giving Local officially received 501(C)3 status on May 10th of 2019.

We are thrilled to share that we successfully ran our first Volunteer Athlete Team program as an Official Race Partner at the OC Marathon. We had volunteer athletes running in the race and we had a team of volunteers participating as race day support at a water station on the marathon course.

We have our next team event confirmed. We will be participating as a charity team in the 25th Anniversary Cool Breeze Century Ride in August.

Our team has established relationships with several charity partners and with many local businesses that are excited to give back with us.

We look forward to an amazing second half of 2019.
