Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
ACSF Annual Symposia
ACSF hosts annual symposia, often in partnership with other institutions or organizations. They are typically located at spiritually or historically significant places and include keynotes, paper sessions, award ceremonies, tours and other group activities. All paper sessions are blind peer reviewed. Symposia themes are aligned with the ACSF Mission and Strategic Plan. Recent themes have included: Continuity In/Of Architecture, Culture and Spirituality (Taliesin West), Displacement and Architecture (University of Miami and Coral Gables Museum), Practice, Craft, Materials and Making (Haystack Mountain School of Crafts), Utopia, Architecture and Spirituality (New Harmony, Indiana), Nature and the Ordinary (Ghost Ranch, New Mexico), and Urbanism, Spirituality and Well Being (Harvard Divinity School and Harvard School of Public Health). To date, eleven symposia have been conducted. Abstracts from all symposia are posted on the ACSF website, which also includes videos from selected symposia.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The Architecture, Culture and Spirituality Forum exists to fill an important role in design education and practice through research, outreach, and advocacy on the significance, experience, and meaning of the built environment. It is the only organization of its type that addresses the spiritual and cultural aspects of the built environment. We believe that the design and experience of the built environment can assist the spiritual development of humanity in service of addressing the world’s most pressing issues.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
1. Expanded Website and Communications
2. Organizational Development including an expanded Board of Directors, a Fellows Program for students and early career professionals for mentoring roles and volunteering opportunities, and an Advisory Board of recognized international leaders in their fields.
3. Programming and Content Creation and Dissemination for primary research areas, a long-term plan and guidelines for symposia cycle, themes, locations, and potential partners, publishing research of members through peer-reviewed publications, design competitions that address priorities, and exploring development of a demonstration project for Transcendent Human Habitats.
4. Fundraising including developing and implementing a fundraising plan for annual gifts, major gifts, and planned gifts, and identifying appropriate organizations and individuals to fund priorities and projects.
5. Critical Partnerships to engage institutions and organizations with a focus on practice and diverse international audiences and disciplines.
6. Awards Programs including a design awards program for professional and student sacred architecture works, and a paper and project recognition program for symposia.
