New England Arab American Organization

NEAAO has worked very closely with DHHS and other organizations on Covid-19 support at home and quarantine shelters, sharing education and information, distribution of PPE and vaccinations. These services were delivered in a culturally sensitive way in Arabic to support all refugees and immigrants. Before Ramadan, April 2020, NEAAO Board and volunteers delivered 455 food boxes to families in Maine. In May, NEAAO hosted a Eid Al-Fitr celebration which for over 200 families. NEAAO has been helping neighbors get the resources they need to stay healthy and safe. We distributed aid to over 500 families, provided meals to over 50 families in quarantine, and continue to support families. We produced posters and brochures in Arabic to ensure information is accessible NEAAO created support avenues for new Mainers to thrive in the Lakes Region of Maine. Working with Through These Doors we established a strong safety net and community. Our work ensures access to human and emergency services identifying supportive allies understanding the challenges of moving to rural Maine areas.
