What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
The Elderly Project
The community leaders have expressed their desire to help fund meals for the elderly in their village. The elderly in Haiti struggle to obtain even the most basic necessities. This is concerning to church leaders in Merger de Sibert. Laman Outreach is partnering with them to provide meals, bedding, help with laundering their clothing, as well as providing medical oversight. Laman Outreach and the church leadership have worked together to identify and begin providing for 28 of the most at-risk elderly in the village with plans to increase the number served as funds become available. In January, 2017 we began offering a direct sponsorship program to meet the needs of each of our 28 elderly.
The Hypertension Project
This project is currently in development and will address the country-wide issue of hypertension in the communities where we serve. Affecting 65% of Haitians over the age of 40, hypertension is the greatest cause of morbidity and mortality in Haitian adults ahead of HIV, Cholera, Malaria, and Tuberculosis combined. Beginning with the participants in the Elderly Project, our goal is to extend services into the community at large in the near future.
Community Health Initiatives
Working with healthcare professionals and organizations on the ground in Haiti, we are developing community based health education initiatives on critical topics such as Nutrition/Malnutrition, Breastfeeding, Childbirth Safety and Basic First Aid.
Vocational Training, Professional Development and Job Placement
We invest in individuals, from teens to the elderly, who have plans for transforming the lives of people in their own communities. We currently employ two employees in Haiti, a Project Manager and Health Coordinator, both of whom are beautiful examples of our commitment to building up and walking alongside potential community leaders.
