Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Education
Our goal is to help children flourish in their education. We’re fighting to shift the odds so every child has the best possible future. With an approach to education that spans from cradle to career, we’re making sure children start school ready to learn, achieve on-grade reading levels, maintain strong attendance and graduate on time. United Way of the Plains works through funded partners, initiatives and collaborations.
Health
Our goal is to build a healthier community, one person at a time. We’re fighting to help people thrive, no matter their age, ethnicity or ZIP code. Whether it’s offering medical care for low-income individuals who can’t afford services, providing counseling to people with mental health illnesses, or supporting those with disabilities so they can maintain their independence, we’re giving people the tools they need to get healthy and stay healthy. United Way of the Plains works through funded partners, initiatives and collaborations.
Financial Stability
Our goal is to empower people to become financially stable. We’re fighting for people to find not just short term financial success but long lasting financial stability. That means connecting people with career skills and support to get and keep a better job. It means providing financial counseling to get out of debt and stay out of debt. It means covering the basics in emergency situations. United Way of the Plains works through funded partners, initiatives and collaborations.
Community Services
United Way of the Plains serves the community with the 211 helpline (that provides 24/7 free and confidential information and referral for hundreds of local health and human services), Give Items of Value Program (a gift-in-kind program that accepts corporate donations and gives them to nonprofits, for free), a Volunteer Center (that matches individuals with volunteer opportunities at nonprofits to transform our community, and disaster response activities (activities that help our community respond and recover from various local disasters).
Basic Needs
Addressing basic needs helps more people survive and move forward. We’re fighting to help our most vulnerable neighbors and those in crisis recover by meeting their basic needs. This means addressing a lack of resources and overcoming barriers to life-saving assistance. Helping those in need survive today propels them to live their best lives possible tomorrow.
