Asking Better Questions. Providing Better Answers.
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
At IDEA, we have a philosophy that Student Voice Matters. It is a belief shared by our client partners and those dedicated to a holistic view of learning in higher education. In order to get a complete picture of instruction, we insist that students’ voices be heard as they spend more time observing faculty than anyone else on campus. In order to get a complete view of advising programs, we need their feedback on what works and what doesn't. Student feedback strengthens our teaching, our advising, our programs, and our campuses - it is indisputable. But to do it right, we need to ask better questions to get better answers. We need to offer support and advice with research to support this philosophy.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Student Ratings of Instruction
IDEA’s Student Ratings of Instruction System is designed to provide feedback instructors can use—formative feedback that gives suggestions for improvement—as well as summative feedback that can be used as a component of a more comprehensive system of faculty evaluation.
IDEA Papers
The IDEA Paper series, begun in 1979, is one of IDEA’s most recognizable resources. IDEA Papers are a national forum for the publication of peer-reviewed articles pertaining to the general areas of teaching and learning, faculty evaluation, curriculum design, assessment, and administration in higher education.
IDEA Impact Grants
IDEA's grant making initiative aims to give back to the teaching and learning community. We are looking to deepen partnerships with our community of IDEA Scholars through the establishment of our IDEA Impact Grants. Our goal is to fulfill our mission through direct financial support for practitioners engaged in the expansion of teaching and learning.
Leadership Feedback Systems
The primary purpose of all IDEA Feedback survey instruments is to provide information that may be used to guide professional development efforts.
Academic Advising Assessment and Feedback System
Quality academic advising is integral to student success. More than just supporting course selection and registration, academic advisors have a unique opportunity to connect with students in a rich and meaningful way.
