To Love Children Story

Why We Are
" To Love Children's vision is a world in which every girl child attains gender justice, preventative health, access to early childhood to higher education" Dr David Kenneth Waldman
To Love Children Ten years of service

Dr David Kenneth Waldman had an epiphany that changed his life during a trip to Thailand in 1990. He had traveled to the northern Mekong River region to visit a young girl he had been sponsoring financially through a nonprofit organization, Plan International. “As I stood on a dirt road looking up at her small house on stilts, I had a sudden realization; I turned to the guide next to me and said, ‘I know what I’m going to do with the rest of my life. I’m going to create a foundation for children.’ ” To Love Children is dedicated to the girl child living in poverty. You are the raison d'être for our work. Saddened that Rebecca and Mack Waldman are not alive to share the nachas (joy) of the work TLC has done in the world. To Love Children follows the Jewish cultural tradition of (Tikkun Olam)

GIRL

Girl International Resource Learning education program.
In 2000, a series of studies by United Nations International Children Education Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations began to examine the effects of educating young girls on the overall health and sustainable growth of developing countries. Their findings repeatedly showed that “investments in girls’ education – particularly those directed to the quality of education – benefit all children, including boys.” Thus, targeted, equally accessible, and a gender-conscious approach to education categorically produces a stronger and more sustainable result than any gender-neutral approach.

TLC
developed Healthy and Smart in
response to the escalating HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa, particularly among young
women.  HIV not only yields significant
biological and social costs, but is also detrimental economically.  HIV and AIDS are known to hamper efforts to
reduce poverty and have negative impacts on educational development. An
additional consequence is the increase in the numbers of people living in
extreme poverty.

            During the implementation and
evaluation stage of Healthy and Smart,
we will provide you with updates and ask for your input.  My international public health team is
gathering research in order to incorporate TLC’s HIV prevention curriculum into
a micro loan poultry project for women living with HIV. TLC is also examining
ways to expand our international public health program in order to encompass a
broader range of intervention strategies addressing HIV, including
mother-to-child transmission, HIV testing, counseling, and treatment.
