Mission

The mission of Work, Achievement, Values & Education (WAVE), Inc. is to motivate school dropouts and other at-risk youth to complete school, lead productive lives, and become valued contributors to their communities. WAVE achieves its mission by building the capacity of teachers and youth workers to serve the most difficult to reach youth. WAVE gives these professionals high-quality model programs, professional development training, and curriculum to serve youth with a variety of risk factors associated with dropping out of school, such as absenteeism, adjudication, lack of connection to school or community resources, mental health issues, substance use, premature parenting, unemployment, and lack of positive adult role models. WAVE is a national training and resource organization that ensures that school drop outs and other youth at risk receive the highest quality educational, youth development, and career services possible. WAVE programs across the country: - teach youth valuable work skills, - provide opportunities to experience achievement, - help build positive values, and - inspire youth to embrace education and service to their community.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

WAVE offers three main types of services:

1. Model Programs that any high school, middle school, or youth organization can implement for school dropouts or young people at risk.

2. Curriculum written by experts to support the classroom activities of each model program.

3. Training and Technical Assistance to help youth programs achieve better outcomes, including program analysis, strategic planning, and effective teaching strategies.

WAVE program models are easily adapted to the individual communities and youth populations for which they are implemented and are supported by thorough curricula for each model.

- WAVE In Schools, a dropout prevention and workforce readiness program for high school students.

- WAVE In Middle Grades, a dropout prevention and character education program that addresses the special developmental needs of middle school students.

- WAVE In Communities, a dropout recovery program implemented by community-based organizations, which helps participants improve their employability, succeed on the job, and gain educational credentials

- WAVE After School, a dropout prevention and workforce readiness program adapted for an after school setting

- WAVE Leadership Association, a youth-led membership group for WAVE youth, focused on community service and building leadership skills in the participants

- Breaking Down the Boundaries, the business-volunteer component of all program models

A local school or community-based organization can use any combination of WAVE services and experience a dramatic increase in successful outcomes for youth.
