What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

The need that is constant is adequate funding to carry out our mission and to ensure the program's longevity. We hold at least 4 major fundraisers each year so that we are able to put money aside in our investment account. These funds will be used to cover the cost of running the organization for at least one year should a funding issue occur. Clients will continue to be fed while we search for alternative funding.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

To ensure longevity of organization for future generations by keeping Board of Directors active in the program both financially and physically and to secure enough funds to keep on hand to run the program for 1 year should current funding sources become unavailable. Provide home delivered heart healthy nutritious meals to recipients, as well as, referrals for additional in home services thereby keeping their risk of institutionalization at a minimum.

Continuously recruit those community members who have the contacts, funds (or who are capable of raising funds) and diverse talents to serve on the Board of Directors. Abide by the written By-Laws of the organization and the policies/procedures that are in place. Raise funds that can be earmarked for the "1 Year Operational Account". Make sure the meal provider (caterer) adheres to the service specifications contained in the contract and continue to explore the possibility of opening a "Meals on Wheels" kitchen run by the program. Staff provides the necessary referral information to all recipients in need and ensures that their views, opinions and requests regarding their meal service is taken into consideration at all times.

The Board of Directors is comprised of members with diverse talents, strong community contacts and the ability to raise funding for the organization. Paid staff is also comprised of caring individuals who ensure that the clients needs are put first at all times. The staff works well together and with minimal need for supervision. The funds that are needed to run the organization on a daily basis are available due to the Board of Director's continuous efforts to raise funds and to the staff's conscientious use of program supplies and equipment. Clients nutritional risks are evaluated by a Registered Dietitian and who also provides counselling when needed. Provide daily social contact with each meal delivery by volunteer drivers.

300 home bound residents living in Eastern Sussex County do not have to worry about going to bed hungry or where their next meal is coming from. Risk of institutionalization has been lowered for many of the program's clients through the delivery of meals and the daily social contact with volunteer meal delivery drivers. Funds are being raised to help organization become more self sufficient should current funding sources dry up.
