What we aim to solve
Music education provides life-changing benefits for young people. However, many barriers exist that prevent children from experiencing high-quality music instruction. Through our tuition-free model and sustained approach, The People’s Music School aims to make the benefits of music education accessible for all. We create opportunities for underserved students to achieve musical excellence while growing as leaders and building valuable life skills to support their long-term success.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Tuition Free Music Education
The People’s Music School provides students with everything needed to access an intensive music education enriching for their social, emotional, and intellectual development. Students attend after-school music programming for >4 hours weekly to include music theory, ensembles, individual lessons, and composition, all competencies crucial for music excellence. Our 10-level curriculum is grounded in four instructional pillars: 1) Private lessons build work ethic; 2) Ensemble instruction teaches students how to be team players; 3) Music theory trains students to think critically and compose and arrange music of their own; and 4) Performance helps students develop confidence and bravery. Programming elements include a customized, progression-based music curriculum, a large inventory of musical instruments for students to keep throughout their tenure in our program, transportation to after-school programming, family engagement activities, and robust community and school partnerships.
