What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Defense of Civil Rights and Liberties
The American Civil Liberties Foundation of DE defends the First Amendment rights of freedom of speech, association and assembly; freedom of the press; and freedom of religion. We correct constitutional violations and advance civil rights and liberties through legal analysis and advocacy; legal action in the courts; promotion of policy change at all levels of government; and community organizing, outreach and education. We also assume the critical responsibility of advising the people of Delaware of their civil rights.
Criminal Justice Reform
The American Civil Liberties Foundation of DE pursues legislation to promote bail reform, expand opportunities for early release of older or ill prisoners, and increase the use of diversion programs and specialty courts such as drug and mental health courts. We’re also working to increase the likelihood of success for people leaving prison so that they may better integrate back into society.
School Justice & Equality.
The American Civil Liberties Foundation of DE is working to replace punitive disciplinary practices in the state's schools with appropriate restorative justice alternatives. We've also filed a lawsuit to enforce the state's constitutional promise to adequately educate its students.
