Mission

Every one of us has had that moment when we have seen or heard something so beautiful that we are transformed. These experiences lead us to profound thoughts. These thoughts change our lives. Art provides an access to ourselves, an expression of those gifts that are uniquely ours. It provides an access to other human beings as we marvel at their gifts. It provides access to the community as we share ourselves with others. It may even provide access to the divine. Our name is our mission?Access through the Arts.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Access Through the Arts provides support for the Alexandria Ballet, directed by Virginia Britton. For the 2nd year ATTA is providing 500 tickets to the Nutcracker to Alexandria Headstart children and their families. We are also hosting a dedicated performance for special needs children and their families.

Directed by Frank Regan, the American Dance Montage is currently the only ballroom dance theater company in the United States. Mr. Regan is the recipient of numerous awards, including the 2008 Alex Award for Excellence in the Arts.

ATTA's Dancing in the Classrooms program is a curriculum-based series in which students are taught the vocabulary of contemporary social dances as a means toward social awareness and self-esteem. Directed by Gary Stephans and Helenmarie Corcoran, the program is inspired by the work of Pierre Dulaine as featured in the films Mad Hot Ballroom and Take the Lead.
