Mission

To contribute toward its vision for the world, WEDO’s mission is to ensure that women’s rights; social, economic and environmental justice; and sustainable development principles-as well as the linkages between them-are at the heart of global and national policies, programs and practices. WEDO's two main goals are: 1) Women are empowered to claim their rights as decision-makers, advocates and leaders, especially on issues related to environment and sustainable development 2) Sustainable development policies, plans and practices are gender-responsive, environmentally and socially just, and effectively implemented

Frontline Feminist Advocacy on Climate Change

WEDO supports critical feminist analysis and advocacy training for frontline feminists to engage in climate policy work at national and global levels. This includes technical policy analysis, creating and hosting training toolkits and workshops, hosting events and facilitating the engagement of grassroots activists in critical global policy spaces and advocating for gender-responsive climate finance.

WEDO is a women's global advocacy organization, working towards a just world that promotes and protects human rights, gender equality and the integrity of the environment. WEDO's current goals include:

*Advancing women's leadership: Women are empowered as decision-makers and leaders, especially in environmental and sustainable development arenas;
*Promoting sustainable development: sustainable development policies, plans and practices are gender responsive; and
*Ensuring good global governance: global governance is transparent, accountable and effective.

Key strategies to WEDO's work encompass:
*Building capacity and facilitating space for women's political voice, power and influence at local, national and international levers
*Engendering policy and actions to reflect women's human rights and sustainable development
*Leveraging and strengthening policy spaces for women's global movement building and leadership
*Supporting regional and national stakeholders, networks and governments to turn policy commitments on gender equality into action
*Fostering strong and diverse partnerships with women's organizations; environmental, development and human rights organizations; governments; and intergovernmental organizations, including the United Nations

WEDO has highly experience staff with diverse backgrounds in research, advocacy, campaigning and communications - across climate change, peace and security, governance and accountability, disaster risk reduction, sustainable cities and women's human rights and gender equality. WEDO also has a strong and active board of directors, as well as meaningful partnerships with women's and ally organizations across all regions of the world. Strong relationships with UN entities and government agencies support WEDO's efforts to reach multiple levels of leaders and stakeholders to maximize its impact.

WEDO has successfully advocated for gender-sensitive and gender-responsive international agreements in the areas of climate change, sustainable development, cities, disaster risk reduction and biodiversity.
WEDO has successfully advocated for greater inclusion of environment, climate change and sustainable development within women's rights processes such as the Commission on the Status of Women, following up the Beijing Platform for Action.
WEDO has integrated concepts of climate justice and gender justice into its own and partners' work.
