What we aim to solve
CentrePointe Counseling provides needed, affordable professional mental health care in a high demand region. About 18 percent of adults have any type of mental health illness in Maryland, District of Columbia and Virginia, amounting to over 2 million people. In Maryland alone, 22 percent of all adults with mental health-related issues reported they were not able to receive the treatment needed. The chief barriers include: absence of insurance, limited availability of services, and insufficient finances to cover costs (including co-pays or full fees). Furthermore, many clients with faith backgrounds have trouble accessing licensed counselors able to integrate a client's faith in their treatment plans. Many clients seek counselors they can trust to help them through treatment plans that include their religious beliefs.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Mental Health Counseling
CentrePointe Counseling provides professional, licensed counseling with Christian counselors in Maryland and Northern Virginia. We partner with churches and healthcare organizations to provide accessible care. We accept many health insurance plans and provide grants to individuals and communities needing financial assistance through our Samaritan Fund.
Our counselors are trained in spiritual integration, and when led by clients, are able to incorporate a client's faith into their treatment plan.
Additionally, CentrePointe Counseling hosts Continuing Education seminars towards licensing credit units for practicing counselors. These seminars are open to counselors in the region for a fee.
Church and Clergy Wellness
CentrePointe Counseling provides counseling and mental health awareness to churches and members of clergy. We partner with ministers and pastors responsible for church congregations and communities to build awareness of mental health concerns and needs. We also provide counseling and consultation services to ministers and church staff to help build healthy relationships that ultimately impact the church at large.
Continuing Education
CentrePointe Counseling hosts Continuing Education seminars towards annual licensing requirements for practicing counselors. These seminars are taught by CentrePointe counselors as well as invited licensed counselors, and attendees are charged a fee.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
CentrePointe Counseling's charitable goals are to provide accessible mental health care by lowering financial barriers to affordable, professional counseling; and by growing and developing our services to reach and impact more communities.
Our goal through the Samaritan Fund and other charitable activities are to provide high quality mental health care with licensed, professional Christian counselors in Maryland, Washington, DC , and Northern Virginia.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Through CentrePointe Counseling's Samaritan Fund, we provide a means for clients to access our mental health care professionals. The Samaritan Fund is a grant program that provides financial coverage for counseling sessions (at reduced rates) for clients requiring financial assistance. It is fully donor supported. Grants require a formal application submission that covers personal finances and need; applications are then reviewed for level of need. One hundred percent of donations have been designated for use by clients and church communities with financial need, who are unable to afford counseling on their own.
Through the Samaritan Fund and by accepting many insurance plans, CentrePointe Counseling provides financially accessible care.
New projects directed to reach more individuals and communicates include building lecture programs and group discussion sessions amongst church communities.
By building our counselor base, nurturing regional partnerships and developing educational outreach programs, we plan to continue to address mental health concerns across more communities in the area. Our counselors are all practicing Christians as well as licensed counselors, and comprise a community that holds each other professionally and ethically accountable.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
CentrePointe Counseling has built partnerships and networks for the last 30+ years. Through trusted relationships with our partners and through our work reputation, we are able to access numerous church and local communities. With 23 licensed counselors (and growing) throughout Maryland and Northern Virginia, over 20 church partners, a professional and diverse Board, and key organizational partnerships and supporters, CentrePointe Counseling has been able to continue meeting and adapting to the needs of the region.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Since 2020, CentrePointe Counseling's Samaritan Fund quadrupled the number of clients and amount of funds per year dedicated to clients requiring financial assistance for counseling.
