Expanding the Circle of Compassion
Educational efforts in the US and Israel to increase awareness of the problems of animals in Israel & what help is needed. Direct support to prevent and relieve animal suffering, such as our mobile spay/neuter clinic, which provides low cost services and education on responsible care around the country. Legislative initiatives to prevent cruelty to horses and to promote proper care of them. Raising funds to construct a sanctuary for abused horses and donkeys and an education center to teach proper care of these animals. See our website at www.chai-online.org

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Integrating humane education into the regular school curriculum.
Banning cart horses from city streets and highways
Improving laws to protect animals
Preventing gambling on horse racing from coming to Israel
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
CHAI created humane education materials for schools and introduced humane education into many schools in Israel.
CHAI co-sponsored a conference with Israel's Ministry of Education on the link between violence toward animals and humans, which caused Israel's Knesset Education Committee to state that humane education should be part of the regular curriculum.
CHAI co-sponsored with the Ministry of Education conferences around Israel to introduce humane education to teachers.
CHAI campaigned to raise awareness of the suffering of cart horses in Israel, exposed abuse of these animals in the media, closed down a main abuser of them, and rescued and rehabilitated cart horses. CHAI wrote to Mayors around the country, to the Transportation Ministry, and submitted a proposal to the Tel Aviv City Council, asking that the phenomenon be banned. The Minister of Transportation signed CHAI’s proposed regulation banning the phenomenon and it was approved by the Justice Ministry and the Police. The regulation was finally approved by the Knesset Education Committee and is now law.
CHAI introduced a bill in the Knesset that would ban gambling on sports involving animals, such as dog racing and horse racing, and is working toward passage of this bill.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
See Strategies, above, with respect to our capabilities in the areas of education and legislation in Israel.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
CHAI has achieved much since its inception in March 1984. To read about our accomplishments over the past 30 years, see our website at www.chai-online.org.
