Suitland Civil Legal Clinic

Our Free Legal Representation Project is Community Legal Services' main program. Any person with a legal problem who believes that he or she may qualify for free representation may contact CLS's staff by calling 240-391-6370. A staff member will discuss the problem with the caller and determine whether the problem qualifies for brief advice, referral to one of our volunteer lawyers, or referral to a social service agency.
CLS opened our clinic in August 2010, located in Suitland, MD.  Suitland is one of our inner beltway communities undergoing revitilization.
CLS opened a Workers' Rights Clinic in April 2006 to assist workers collect unpaid wages. CLS's Family Law Clinic for the self represented, located in the courthouse in Upper Marlboro, MD was established in 1996. There, clients representing themselves, receive brief information or advice from a staff lawyer or volunteer lawyer in civil legal matters.

We also conduct a Latino Legal Access clinic at the Community Outreach Policing Station in Langley Park, MD. There, Spanish speaking clients receive brief information or advice from a staff lawyer or volunteer lawyer in civil legal matters. Clients may be referred to a lawyer in private practive for representation. This clinic is funded through the Family Division of the Maryland Administration Office of the Courts.
CLS remains a stabilizing force in children's lives who due to divorce and abandonment, lack the basic necessities of life. Through our legal intervention, we help to establish stability, security, and hope to the children of our community.
Since opening our intake lines in 1989, volunteer lawyers have donated millions of dollars of otherwise billable hours to serve the needy in Prince George's County, MD.
