Medical Student Anesthesia Research Fellowship (MSARF)
This summer fellowship provides medical students with an eight-week research experience within an academic anesthesiology department. During the fellowship, students participate in research, training, and clinical anesthesia activities, along with valuable virtual content including journal clubs and online presentations. The program culminates in participants having the opportunity to make a scientific presentation at the American Society of Anesthesiologists’ (ASA) ANESTHESIOLOGY® annual meeting.

Funding Amount: $3,200 stipend
Duration: 8 weeks; ANESTHESIOLOGY® annual meeting
Research time: Dedicate 40 hours per week to the fellowship for the eight consecutive weeks
Resident Scholar Program (RSP)
The FAER Resident Scholar Program provides academically promising anesthesiology residents with the opportunity to attend the American Society of Anesthesiologists’ (ASA). Each year, FAER invites approximately 60 ACGME-accredited anesthesiology programs to select a resident to participate in the Resident Scholar Program, beginning with institution members of FAER’s Society for Anesthesia Education and Research (SAER). The goal of the RSP is to support research among residents by providing an opportunity to present their work among peers and established scientists in the specialty of anesthesiology.

FAER/eSAS: A Day for New Researchers
In collaboration with Early-Stage Anesthesiology Scholars (eSAS), FAER provides a full day of research sessions at the ASA Annual Meeting, ANESTHESIOLOGY®.
This event consists of the paper poster presentations given by participants in FAER’s Medical Student Anesthesia Research Fellowship (MSARF) and Resident Scholar Program (RSP). The symposium provides these early-career physicians an opportunity to discuss and receive feedback on their research projects from both their peers as well as the senior physician-scientists moderating their presentations.
Sessions organized by eSAS will precede FAER’s MSARF and RSP poster presentations, creating a day fully dedicated to the growth of early-career physician-scientists.
