Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Academic Support includes the following activities: 1. Homework Clubs are offered in public housing communities for young residents. Homework Club I is designed for youth in grades 1 through 6; and Homework Club II is designed for youth in grades 7 through 12. 2. Middle and high school after school tutoring programs to increase math and reading skills and improve grade point averages. 3. Summer Bridge in conjunction with area post secondary institutions to reinforce previous year knowledge and develop skills to be successful in the next school year. College Access activities include the following: 1. College awareness seminars, designed for youth and their families in grades 7 through 12 2. College counseling. 3. Financial aid workshops and counseling, designed for youth and their families in grades 11 and 12. 4. SAT/ACT preparation, designed for youth in grades 9 through 12. 5. Assistance with college entrance exam, application, and admission fees. 6. College visitations, which provide a range of experiences for youth to gain first hand knowledge of college expectations, admissions requirements and goal setting beginning in 7th grade. 7. Summer immersion activities, designed for youth in grades 9 through 11. 8. Assistance in entering pre-college programs, designed for youth accepted to an institution of higher education who could benefit from pre-college workshops and academic preparation. 9. Use of successful college role models in FGCB activities. 10. Partnership with College Summit for 12th graders. A range of college access activities are provided throughout the academic year and during the summer. Enrichment Activities include the following: 1. Community Integration activities, which enrich the activities of both Homework Clubs I and II, i.e., field experiences, exposure to the visual and performing arts, community service, involvement in entrepreneurship; 2. Recognition activities, i.e., Honor Roll recognition events, end of year, and graduation celebrations; 3. Career Development activities, which provide a direct link between college goals and academic learning; and 4. Parent Involvement activities, which encourage parental involvement in goal setting and academic attainment by their children. Enrichment/enhancement activities provide a range of experiences for youth and their parents/guardians, including attendance at cultural and sports events, summer camp, entrepreneurship, guest speakers, industry field trips, job shadowing and part time employment, and seminars for parents. Recognition events and community sponsored social events are also included.
