What we aim to solve
The Alliance for Health Policy is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping policymakers and the public better understand health policy, the root of the nation’s health care issues, and the trade-offs posed by various proposals for change. We believe a better health care system begins with a balanced exchange of evidence, experience, and multiple perspectives. Regardless of their point of view, our audience recognizes the Alliance’s reputation as a well-respected source for unbiased health policy information.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our mission is to inform solutions for improving health and health care in the United States by advancing health policy knowledge and facilitating solutions-focused dialogue among diverse stakeholders and leaders.
Our vision is to improve health and health care by fostering a balanced exchange of evidence, experience, and multiple perspectives.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
The Alliance is unique among entities in the Washington, D.C., area: Our goal is to carry out unbiased educational briefings and activities for health care policymakers. Through our programs, including policy retreats for congressional staff and members of Congress, briefings for the health policy community, and press briefings, we bring together top national experts to convey the foundations of health policy and advance the dialogue on challenging health policy issues.
In addition, we create a forum for dialogue by bringing together the health policy community to advance solutions-focused conversations on important health policy issues.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
For almost 30 years, the Alliance has been helping to clarify and synthesize the issues for generations of policymakers and staff. The Alliance has conducted over 1,000 briefings on Capitol Hill, around Washington, DC and online on timely and important health policy topics. Our events are among the most widely-respected and well-attended inside the Beltway, regularly drawing audiences of 200 or more congressional and agency staff, media, and health policy stakeholders. Whether they are new to health policy or seasoned experts, our audience looks to the Alliance as the trusted source of health policy information.
The Alliance is led by a highly skilled staff and Board of Directors composed of bipartisan leaders in health care. The Alliance President and CEO, Sarah Dash, previously served as a senior aide on Capitol Hill and on the research faculty at the Georgetown University Health Policy Institute’s Center on Health Insurance Reforms. She holds a master’s degree in public health from Yale and an executive certificate in nonprofit management from Georgetown.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
The Alliance has been the trusted resource in Washington, DC and the greater health policy community for almost 30 years. Our educational events and thought leader convenings are unique and bridge the political and ideological divide bringing together diverse voices and differing perspectives. The Alliance’s mission has proven to be a continuous need throughout our three decades of health policy leadership and education.
In 2019, we held 45 policy briefings, with over 3,500 attendees, including over 700 Congressional and Executive Branch attendees. We brought in diverse perspectives, with 63% of speakers and thought leaders being women and/or people of color.
As we have refocused on digital programming in 2020, we have reached more health policy policymakers and professionals than ever. Through May 2020, we’ve held 28 events with over 13,620 attendees to our webinar series alone. We pivoted rapidly to address the need for knowledge on the COVID-19 pandemic among our policymaking audience and have received unsolicited feedback from across the health policy spectrum on the value of our webinar series on COVID-19, which has been viewed by people in every state in the nation.
