Mission

The Maryland Student Legislature (MSL) was founded in 1989 to convene, study, discuss and act on issues brought before the legislative and judicial bodies of the MSL; encourage greater public awareness concerning issues of public policy and provide a forum in which students across the state of Maryland can voice their opinions on issues of public policy; develop among its members a dedication to the values of citizenship and democracy; and teach parliamentary procedure while showcasing the debating, leadership and political talent of its members.

Fall Leadership Training Institute

The Fall Leadership Training Institute is a one-day event which features training seminars that enable students to effectively write legislation and participate in the MSL simulation.

The Winter Session is a two-day event held at a different member university each year at which MSL students simulate the Maryland General Assembly by participating in committee hearings and floor debate on student-written legislation. The event also features training seminars that enable students to effectively write legislation and participate in the MSL simulation.

The Annual Session is MSL's flagship three-day event held at at the Maryland State House in Annapolis. MSL students simulate the Maryland General Assembly by participating in committee hearings and floor debate on student-written legislation. The event also features a keynote speaker, a panel discussion, the presentation of annual awards, and a gala dinner in downtown Annapolis.
