Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Since our founding in 1947, Chimes has assisted people with intellectual and behavioral challenges to achieve three main goals: choice, capability, community. These founding principles still resonate and guide us today:
To live as independently as possible, guided by choice.
To understand, respond to and achieve the potential of their capabilities.
To serve as productive, contributing members of their community.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Behavioral Health: We offer a comprehensive range of services and supports for people with mental health, substance abuse, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and co-occurring disorders. Additionally, we provide an array of prevention and educational programs for youth, parents, and adults to encourage healthy choices and lifestyles.
Employment Services: Chimes is one of the nation’s largest employers of people with disabilities. We provide training and employment opportunities that capitalize on what people can do. And, through multiple federal and state contracts, we employ more than 1,600 people in Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and the District of Columbia.
Intellectual Disabilities and Autism: Our network expands from toddler-to-senior services with supports tailored to the unique abilities and needs of each person we serve. Our educational services, residential supports, day and vocational training, supported employment and competitive employment opportunities are all integrated with various communities to maximize opportunities and growth for our participants.
