Abramson Scholarship Foundation
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Fewer than half of D.C. public high school students who enroll in college graduate within six years. Significant barriers prevent low-income students from both accessing and completing college. In addition to lacking financial resources, many students -- especially first-generation college students -- do not have the benefit of role models and mentors to provide academic and emotional support to stay engaged in and complete their studies. Students who start but do not finish college are left with burdensome school loans and no degree.

Abramson Scholarship & Mentoring Program
The Abramson Foundation’s scholarship program employs a two-fold approach to support underprivileged college-bound graduates of D.C. public high schools, so they can succeed in college. We offer financial assistance and match mentors to each Scholar to support their success through all four years of college and beyond.
Each spring, the Foundation selects a new cohort of Scholars from graduating Seniors from D.C. Public and Charter schools. Guidance counselors and other community organizations help identify eligible candidates. The Foundation maintains a rigorous process of selecting new Scholars from each year's graduating class. Members of the Scholarship Committee review all applications and interview applicants. Students are selected based on the following criteria: ● Recent DC public high school graduate ● Academic achievement ● Financial need (40% of our students are from families earning $30,000 a year or less) ● Demonstrated commitment to community service ● Enrollment in a four-year accredited college
