Mission

The Manor Conservancy partners with the community to permanently protect
the agricultural, natural, historic/cultural, and scenic rural resources of territory in northern Baltimore and northwest Harford counties, Maryland. Our area extends from the core of My Lady's Manor National Historic District, encompasses the Manor Rural Legacy area in Baltimore and Harford counties, and reasches into the agricultural and open space land north to the Maryland/Pennsylvania Line.

Development pressure from more populated areas threatens large farms with subdivision. Commercial uses not envisioned when current zoning was enacted, including large-scale solar installations, mar viewsheds and may have an adverse impact on water quality.

Stewardship of conservation values and rural resources

Ongoing monitoring of easement provisions, education of landowners and the community about conservation practices and requirements.

*Establish processes for prioritizing landholdings, analyzing geographic data, contacting landowners, facilitating the easement process, and increasing the sources and types of easement funding.
*Establish improved systems for conservation education, community support, easement monitoring and risk management
*Develop funding plan to ensure sustainable organizational support to include effective Board leadership, staff and administrative resources, and volunteer and community investments.
*Measure program effectiveness using accepted land trust standards and practices.

The Manor Conservancy is a membership organization governed by a Board of Directors made up of members of the community with various backgrounds, experiences and talents. Mission and goals are expressed in our Long Range and Strategic Plan. A Development Plan has been implemented to clarify ways in which the Conservancy can ensure that it has the financial resources to accomplish its goals with specific focus on resource development.
An executive director and contracted services are present to provide necessary expertise and support for programs. Volunteer staff and in professional in-kind contributions represent a large portion of our support, providing for access to specialized skills and demonstration of community involvement and commitment.
Community support through in-kind contribution of expertise, services and volunteer work is an ongoing and important component of operating support.

-Over 4000 acres are held by the Manor Conservancy; more acreage is available which meets preservation and conservation criteria

-We have successfully facilitated easements held with or by others in the Area; increased cooperation and progress is possible in watershed protection and working relationships with the agricultural community

-Programs to connect members and the public's experience and understanding of the land and rural heritage are ongoing.

-We maintain a continuous program of stewardship monitoring consistent with record keeping and reporting requirements.

-We have presented through our website and social media information necessary for understanding and consideration of easement options.
