Ronald H. Brown African Affairs Series

The Constituency for Africa organizes the Ronald H. Brown (RHB) African Affairs Series each year in September in Washington, DC to coincide with the Congressional Black Caucus’s Annual Legislative Conference (CBC-ALC). The RHB African Affairs Series, which had been ongoing each year, was named after the late U.S. Commerce Secretary, Ronald H. Brown, who was the first African-American appointed to that post. Tragically, Secretary Brown was killed in 1996 in an airplane crash that claimed his life and the members of a trade delegation that he was leading in war-torn Eastern Europe. The RHB African Affairs Series continues to serve as a unique platform for linking the members of the Congressional Black Caucus with African-focused organizations, members of the African Diplomatic Corps, and the Diaspora, as well as with key U.S. and African policy-makers and the leadership of the grassroots community.
