Mission
The Crimes of War Education Project is a collaboration of journalists, lawyers, and scholars dedicated to raising public awareness worldwide of the laws of war and their application to situations of armed conflict. Our goal is to promote understanding of international humanitarian law among journalists, policymakers, and the general public, in the belief that a wider knowledge of the legal framework governing armed conflict will lead to greater pressure to prevent breaches of the law, and to punish those who commit them.

What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
One of the Project's highest priorities is to get relevant tools to journalists on the ground, particularly those working in conflict or post-conflict areas. One such tool is our book, Crimes of War: What the Public Should Know. We also distribute our video "Crimes of War," which traces the growth of international humanitarian law from its inception to its current use as arbiter of horrific acts in Rwanda, Chechnya, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Kosovo. Picking up where the book leaves off, Crimes of War on line (www.crimesofwar.org) is intended both as a journal that reports on developments related to the laws of war, and as a resource for those seeking further information on the subject. It is updated as needed to reflect current events. Our goal is to produce the definitive site for clarification of the laws of war and their application to current conflicts, and also a forum for debate about the existing system of humanitarian law.
Crimes of War Education Project Website
The Crimes of War Education Project is launching a redesigned website in early 2011 that will continue its tradition of making timely original content on international humanitarian law (IHL) issues available to the public, while leveraging the power of social media and modern technology to reach a wider audience. Future stages will include foreign language editions and an online magazine focused on specific IHL themes, among other new features.
