Sarcoidosis Center of Excellence

The Life and Breath Foundation’s mission is to provide the Sarcoidosis community with the vital resources needed to manage their care and to offer a supportive environment where they can be empowered. The center's primary goals are:

-to offer the sarcoidosis community effective tools to track their journey, decipher medical issues and maximize their quality of life

-to provide a nurturing environment for those affected by Sarcoidosis to share their experiences and

-to build more awareness within the medical community to help combat this chronic disease.

Lead physician Mark Lamos, MD (past president and medical director of Greater Baltimore Medical Associates and a Life and Breath Foundation board member) specializes in Sarcoidosis and is passionate about helping Sarcoidosis patients get proper care for this difficult to manage disease.

"Sarcoidosis patients often receive non-comprehensive care,” Dr. Lamos said. “For example, you could have sarcoid of the lungs and you may get sent to a pulmonary specialist, but if somebody forgot to send you to an eye doctor, you could have non-symptomatic renal failure.”

Through the Sarcoidosis Center of Excellence, patients will be paired with a care coordinator who will help ensure continuity of care, follow ups on referrals, and that a patient's psychosocial needs are met. Sarcoid requires a comprehensive plan for long term care to prevent potentially dangerous complications.

Medically complex and incompletely understood, Sarcoidosis presents physicians with medical mysteries and patients with everyday challenges. It hinges on becoming an informed and tenacious advocate for your own medical care, and a thoughtful, compassionate manager of your day-to-day life.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Founded in 1998, the Life & Breath Foundation’s mission is to provide the Sarcoidosis community with the vital resources needed to manage their medical care and to offer a supportive environment where they can be empowered. Since its inception, it has raised over $350,000 for Sarcoidosis awareness and research studies.

We know the support from generous contributors can help deliver hope, knowledge and some day even a cure.

Our primary goals are:
– to offer the sarcoidosis community effective tools to track their journey, decipher medical issues and maximize their quality of life
– to provide a nurturing environment for those affected by Sarcoidosis to share their experiences and
– to build more awareness within the medical community to help combat this chronic disease.

We use our resources to...
-educate sarcoidosis patients on how to live well with their disease through classes and relevant information
-provide educational resources and programs for the doctors who are caring for patients with sarcoidosis

Our Clinical Advisory Board is made up of doctors from across the country who interact with the needs of both patients and doctors in the front lines of this disease. They help advise us as to the best strategies to meet those needs.

We have a monthly informational class on subjects of concern to Sarcoidosis patients. We are building a database of educational materials for doctors who want to learn more about Sarcoidosis.
