What we aim to solve
Here in the United States, we are extremely fortunate to have vaccines to protect us against many life-threatening diseases. However, data gathered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicate that a significant proportion of children, adolescents, and adults are still not receiving all of the vaccines according to the recommended immunization schedules, leading to cases of measles, whooping cough (pertussis), influenza (flu), pneumonia, mumps and more. Influenza and pneumonia remain among the top ten causes of death in both men and women in the U.S. Three key issues are driving many of these gaps in vaccination coverage including misinformation about the safety and efficacy of vaccines; insufficient policies and funding to support immunization at both state and federal levels; and lack of access to vaccines. Behind these facts and statistics are families who have lost loved ones and people who are suffering lifelong side effects from vaccine-preventable diseases.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Vaccinate Your Family
Vaccinate Your Family (VYF) strives to educate the public about the critical importance of timely vaccinations for people of all ages and advocates for strong vaccine policies. Our website, blog and social includes valuable, science-based information on recommended vaccines for pregnant women, babies/children, preteens/teens, and adults. It also contains answers to commonly-asked questions about vaccines and links to a variety of credible resources. For three decades, VYF and our partners in public health have developed many successful strategies to ensure that every individual in our nation is protected from vaccine-preventable diseases; however, there is still much to be done. Please donate to VYF to help us continue our crucial efforts to help keep families and communities healthy from dangerous infectious diseases. As long as a single person becomes ill from a vaccine-preventable disease, our work is not complete.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Vaccinate Your Family: The Next Generation of Every Child By Two (VYF) is a national, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Originally founded as Every Child By Two in 1991 by Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter and Former First Lady of Arkansas Betty Bumpers, the organization strives to protect families and individuals from vaccine-preventable diseases by raising awareness of the critical need for timely immunizations for people of all ages, increasing the public's understanding of the benefits of vaccines, increasing confidence in the safety of vaccines, ensuring that all families have access to life-saving vaccines, and advocating for policies that support timely vaccination. For nearly three decades, VYF and its partners have developed many successful strategies to protect people in the U.S. from vaccine-preventable diseases; however, there is still much to be done. With your generous support, VYF will continue its efforts to help keep families and communities healthy.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
For nearly thirty years, Vaccinate Your Family (VYF) and our partners have developed many successful strategies and resources to help ensure that everyone in our nation is protected from vaccine-preventable diseases, there is still much to be done. VYF needs your help to:
• Amplify Our Voice: While VYF has been successful in reaching the public with the real-life stories of families affected by diseases and the facts about the safety and necessity of timely vaccinations, we can and must do more to expand our reach. We will develop additional science-based vaccination resources, and will share them will our partners and the public. Additionally, we will increase our communications with the public, healthcare providers, policymakers and the media regarding the importance of timely vaccinations and pro-vaccination policies.
• Educate Tomorrow's Parents: A recent longitudinal study from the CDC suggests that most women decide whether to vaccinate their children during their second trimester of pregnancy – and that their opinions rarely change once their children are born. Therefore, VYF will develop a variety of resources to share with pregnant women online to provide them with scientifically-accurate information about both maternal and childhood vaccines.
• Increase Educational Efforts Among Policymakers: Elected officials often change, which can impact our ability to develop strong immunization champions within state legislatures and Congress. It is critical that VYF help ensure that those governing our nation understand the value of vaccines. VYF will communicate directly with policymakers, advocate for policies that support timely vaccinations, and create resources for local advocates to use in their outreach efforts at the city and state levels.
• Ensure Our Legacy for the Future: VYF's founders, Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter and Former Arkansas First Lady Betty Bumpers, have dedicated their lives to ensuring the timely immunization of families. An endowment fund created in honor of our founders will serve as a lasting tribute to the contributions they have personally made to the public health community while supporting the continued efforts of the organization.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
With over 78 years of combined experience in the field of immunization, VYF's dedicated staff are well respected in the public health and medical communities, not only for their in-depth knowledge of vaccinations, but also for their passionate commitment to reducing the burden of vaccine-preventable diseases in families and communities across the U.S. VYF has vast expertise in advocacy, vaccine science and public health communication. Since the creation of the organization in 1991, the CDC has supported our work and has been a steadfast partner in our efforts to eliminate vaccine-preventable diseases. VYF's staff and founders have served on many national committees including HHS' National Vaccine Advisory Committee and Healthy People initiative. VYF partners with a broad network of vaccination advocates including immunization coalitions, immunization program managers, WIC, state and federal government representatives, public health groups, medical associations, and parents.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
VYF serves as a trusted vaccine expert.
VYF reaches millions of people with science-based vaccination information through our Shot of Prevention blog, social media pages, and website (VaccinateYourFamily.org).
VYF created 5 video PSAs and 2 radio PSAs that aired nationwide. VYF developed a flu video that aired as part of a popular in-flight program called Lifestyle 365, and reached about 3 million passengers.
VYF's partnership with OAAA allowed us to receive free placement of nearly 3,500 highway billboard pro-vaccination posters and more than 1,500 bus shelter posters across the country.
VYF provides educational resources and webinars to the staff of the USDA's Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).
VYF reached 13,900 daycare centers with activities, posters, and letters to families on the importance of vaccines.
VYF works with legislators to develop science-based vaccination policies. We create an annual State of the ImmUnion report.
