What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
"Surround-a-child" program
Surround-a-child educational sponsorship program: currently being implemented in Sierra Leone and Nigeria. This benefits at-risk children who are offered ways and means to be in school, receive educational supplies, nutrition, clothing, and care.
Free medical clinics
Monthly, and in some cases, bi-monthly clinics have been Action Africa's way to address the unavailability of basic medical care to rural African populations. This program has depended on the generosity of donors as well as medical personnel in the various countries who on the most part offer their services pro bono. A typical free clinic in a village often drws as many as 1200 beneficiaries who spend an entire day learning to live well, meeting nurses and doctrs, and receiving direct treatment to their ailments.
Microenterprise program
In most sub-Saharan African villages, women are the heart of economic life. Action Africa encourages women groups and cooperatives to grow their economic resources so as to improve their families and their villages. By offering them seed money these women trade or engage in local manufacturing ventures that provide needed supplies. The profit they generate is recycled into community development since it is reinvested in local businesses. Two kinds of programs: individual loans refunded after a specified time; non-refundable seed money to prequalified women groups.
Immigrant outreach program
Action Africa seeks to collaborate with African immigrants in the U.S. in the effort to maximize outcome in Africa. To do so effectively, Action Africa spends time and resources to strengthen immigrant groups.
Capacity Building
Action Africa is consistently reaching out to form partnerships with other organizations. In the regions that we are present and work, we work wo increase the self-reliability and self-sustaining abilities of our partners. This includes offering technical assistance, financial assistance, and training. Action Africa programs are thus run on the ground mostly by people who are local.
