THEA Visual and Performing Arts Scholarship Program

Since 2002 the THEA Foundation along with THEA Educational Partners and THEA Business Partners have awarded 75 high school seniors a total of $782,000 in scholarships. Winners are not required to major in the arts.

This statewide program offers 20 scholarships per year from $4,000 to $2,000. Competitions are judged by professionals in the field.

Twenty-four colleges, universities and institutes (THEA Educational Partners)offer winners additional scholarships for attending their institutions.

ART ACROSS ARKANSAS

Art Across Arkansas is an educational program created and sponsored by The THEA Foundation and the William J. Clinton Foundation. The mission of the program is to interest, inspire, and involve young people by placing fine art in the schools for a school year. Every participating school receives a new exhibit each school year. Through the experience of living with fine art on a daily basis, our students will have an opportunity to gain insights about themselves and their world that might not be possible otherwise. Each piece of art includes a biography of the artist and a statement of the medium utilized to create the work. The art, the stories of its creating artists, and the long-term, daily contact conspire to enhance the creativity and self-expression of every participant beyond anything we can predict as we begin this journey.

As of January 2008 Art Across Arkansas will serve 151 Arkansas public High Schools in 13 counties. Approximately 100,000 students, teachers and parents are served.

Students and teachers and parents have all responded to the "Living with Art" concept Art Across Arkansas provides. Parents come to enjoy the art before and after school. The art is used as a center-piece during programs and teachers use the art for content in their lesson plans.

Thea's Art Closet

Many students find their confidence because of their positive experiences in the visual arts. Many times the only chance children have to express themselves in the arts is in their public school experience. The success of any art class depends on the teacher and the art supplies available to carry on a quality art class.

Many public school art teachers are allotted very few dollars and some are given nothing to buy supplies for their classes, so the THEA Foundation their community and national partners are working to help provide quality supplies to Arkansas? public school teachers.

In 2007 and the beginning of 2008 the THEA Foundation has collected $65,000 in art supplies that have supported 123 art teachers in 5 Arkansas counties. Our goal is to grow the program statewide.
