Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Emergency Shelter and Homelessness Recovery Services
The Union Mission in Norfolk is Southeastern Virginia’s largest and most respected homeless shelter and recovery program. For 130 years, our Christian ministry has compassionately served men, women, and children without a home and with nowhere else to turn.
The Union Mission's Bashford Men's Shelter and Women and Children's Shelters offer caring Christian support for those experiencing homelessness across South Hampton Roads, Virginia. In addition to emergency services to meet basic physical needs, we offer guests holistic care, spiritual support, and personalized help overcoming their causes of homelessness to assure that they can build a better future.
Hope Haven
Hope Haven is our rural Virginia Beach campus where our ministry focuses on nurturing children and strengthening families. We serve people from across the entire South Hampton Roads region and Northeastern NC. Our standing programs include:
● Camp Hope Haven, a weeklong Christian summer camp full of fun and faith, with sponsorships for families who could not otherwise afford for their children to go to camp.
● Switchback, a Christian youth leadership development program and fellowship community of mid-teens and young 20s who have attended or worked at Camp Hope Haven.
● Hope Haven Children's Home, where Christian houseparents care for the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of children from families in crisis
● Recharge Respite Care, a monthly daycamp for special-needs children and their siblings, giving parents a break from the stress of constant caregiving.

Donation Drop-Off and The Union Mission Thrift Store
The Union Mission happily accepts donations of gently used clothing and home goods to help support our ministries to the homeless. We provide for the clothing needs of our shelter guests through your tax-deductible donations, and also assist them with furniture and household goods as they move into permanent housing.
Our Thrift Store sells whatever donations are not needed for direct guest care—and also offers new goods for sale at great prices. Savvy shoppers love the great deals, and proceeds from all sales support our ministry.
Both our Donation Drop-Off and Thrift Store are located on the ministry's main campus in Norfolk.
