Mission

The Winchester Rescue provides high quality care to individuals devastated by the effects of poverty and homelessness by offering healing from the past, help for the present and hope for the future.

Notes from the nonprofit

The Winchester Rescue Mission was established in 1973 as a community based rescue mission for those who find themselves on hard times. Any one of us may find ourselves in the same situation due to the financial blow of losing a job, addiction, incarceration and untreated mental health issues. If you would like to get involved with the Mission in the form of volunteering, donating or any other way, please email us today. There are ways everyone can help and everyones help is needed to end homelessness.

Emergency Shelter

The Winchester Rescue Mission provides emergency services meet the immediate needs of individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty. Providing temporary shelter is one the Rescue Mission is most known for. By meeting these most basic and immediate needs, we provide hope for not only today but for the future in an environment that is caring and supportive.

Guests are cared for in a safe, supportive environment where they can find refuge and rest. Once their most basic and immediate needs are addressed, case managers work one-on-one with each individual to identify next steps, including healthcare and treatment options, including mental health assessments, with a goal of helping them change unhealthy patterns of behavior and solving the root issue which lead to homelessness.

Each night, men and women find a warm bed and safety from the streets at the WRM. The men's shelter can sleep up to 35 men while the current women's shelter can sleep up to eight ladies plus two beds which are held for the Virginia Human Trafficking Initiative (when a female is rescued we ensure a safe place). In addition, our transition housing provides the next step for individuals who are working an in the process of obtaining independent living.
