Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
ArtScape
Since 2009, the Old Town Advancement Commission (OTAC) and the Shenandoah Arts Council (ShenArts) have partnered and collaborated to bring an outdoor gallery to the historic downtown area of Winchester. Artists of all ages are invited to participate in this juried art competition, with selected artwork being reproduced on banners that will then hang on the light posts throughout the downtown area for one year. The original works can be seen at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley (MSV) in the Art in the Halls exhibit from April to July. The MSV sponsors an opening reception in April. The project’s objective is to create an outdoor gallery experience. A community-building project created by volunteers of the OTAC, ShenArts, and the MSV, it adds interest and color to the downtown streetscape with art. The colorful banners encourage pedestrians to stroll and traffic to slow down to enjoy the area. Showcasing locally created art provides a unique twist on an outdoor gallery experience.
Teen Art Club
In collaboration with the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley (MSV), Teen Art Club is a monthly gathering for teenage students who are interested in art. Participants are encouraged to bring their sketchbooks to share with others and meet Shenandoah Valley artists and professionals for guided instruction, inspiration, and to develop their art skills and knowledge. Admission is FREE and registration is not required. Drop-ins are welcome. Light snacks provided.

- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
