American Indian Heritage Foundation

Serving the Tribes, While Sharing the Culture.

aka AIHF   |   Pigeon Forge, TN   |  indians.org

Mission

The American Indian Heritage Foundation was founded in 1973 by Princess Pale Moon, of Cherokee/Ojibwa heritage. The foundation has a two fold mission, to serve needy American Indian families and children with emergency provisions and to sponsor cultural events, bringing Indian people together, as well as to educate the public about the culture and traditions of our people. The multifaceted programs of the Foundation work to help American Indians achieve greater personal fulfillment and deeper pride in their heritage.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

The continuing programs of AIHF are possible because of the gifts of individuals like yourself, all across the country. The foundation receives no government funds and continues to provide these necessary programs for native people because of the generousity of the American people. Some of the programs include the National Indian Eagle Student Awards, giving much needed recognition to native students in the catagories of Leadership, Personal Achievement, athletics, performing arts, arts and crafts, and others. A National Miss Indian USA Scholarship Awards Program is held each year, providing over $40,000 in new scholarships and awards to young native women. Our national emergency relief program surveys tribal and Indian Daycare and urban center needs. Emergency supplies are shipped directly to tribal offices or distribution centers to be provided to native people. AIHF was the sponsoring organization innitiating the Bill, passed by Congress in 1990, declaring November as National American Indian Heritage Month. Special events are held each November to promote national awareness and preservation of American Indian Culture and traditions.
