Adult and Pediatric Primary Care

Johnson Health Center provides quality, comprehensive health care for adult and pediatric patients in a Patient-Centered Medical Home. Our staff includes medical doctors, mid-level providers (nurse practitioners/physician assistants), licensed counselors, and an array of nursing staff including nurses, medical assistants, and case managers in an effort to meet all of your primary care needs.

Part of Johnson Health Center’s commitment to patient wellness is the provision of comprehensive women’s health services and prenatal care. JHC offers a full range of Obstetric and Gynecological (OB-GYN) services. Our OB-GYN providers are available to see patients in our office as well as performing procedures and delivering newborns at Virginia Baptist Hospital.

Some of the OB/GYN services offered at JHC are:
•Routine prenatal care
•Pregnancy testing
•Family planning services
•OB and GYN ultrasounds
•Routine PAP screenings

Population(s) Served

Behavioral health services are offered at all of our sites. The downtown adult site has a part-time psychiatrist, a psychiatric nurse practitioner, two licensed clinical social workers, a licensed professional counselor and a case manager.

Our pediatric and OB site have a licensed clinical psychologist and a medical assistant case manager. Our Amherst and Bedford sites share a licensed professional counselor. People seeking medication management through behavioral health come to the downtown location.

Behavioral health is considered an adjunctive service to the medical care. We work closely with the medical providers, with our goal being a truly integrated model. We provide screenings to determine if we can provide the level of care needed by the individual. We will assist with a referral if one is needed.

Some of the behavioral health services available to our adult and pediatric patients are:
•Short term counseling (adult and pediatric)
•Medication management (adult)
•Psychological testing (pediatric)
•Case management and referral (adult and pediatric)
•GAP assessments (adult)

Johnson Health Center operates a pharmacy to ensure our patients access affordable prescriptions. Patients of Johnson Health Center are able to see their medical provider and pick up prescription medications without the inconvenience of having to make an additional stop at a separate pharmacy.

In addition to our pharmacies reduced and competitive prices, we also offer a $4 price list for specific medications.

Johnson Health Center recognizes the cost of prescription medications can be overwhelming and, in an effort to meet this need, offers a Medication Assistance Program (MAP). MAP allows JHC patients to receive designated medications at a reduced cost. The patient simply needs to express a need to the provider for medication assistance in order to begin the process.

As a service to our patients, JHC submits applications for medication assistance with each pharmaceutical company. Once a patient is approved, our MAP Coordinator orders the patient’s prescribed medications. Some medications are delivered to JHC’s pharmacy where patients can pick them up, and some can be delivered directly to the patient’s house.
