What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Affordable Housing
Habitat homes are sold to families, earning 25%-50% or the area median income,at no profit and are financed with zero interest mortgages. Monthly payments from the mortgages are then used to build additional houses for other families. Each Habitat family makes a small down payment and contributes 300 to 500 hours, called "sweat equity," toward building their home.
Each Habitat homeowner has a mentor, called a family partner, who helps to guide them through the initial stages of home ownership. Homeowners receive a minimum of 16 hours of training on budgeting and home maintenance in addition to one-on-one time with their family partner throughout the year.
Affordable New Homes
Habitat NOVA builds safe, decent and affordable homes for families in need in Northern Virginia. Our homeowners are qualified borrowers, who secure a no interest mortgage in addition to providing 500 hours of 'sweat equity' towards our home builds.
