Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The mission of Central Virginia Battlefields Trust is to preserve land associated with the four major campaigns: Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Wilderness and Spotsylvania. We preserve much needed, and important green space, that tells the story of America's history.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We work with willing property owners to acquire, through fee simple purchase or donation, threatened battlefield ground. We also work in cooperation with local governments rather than in opposition to them. Over the years, we have joined in partnership with developers, preservation organizations, and local governments on several projects. We are proud of the solutions that have preserved selected ground.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Through the ongoing financial support of our donors, individuals and grant funders, we continue to work to preserve the lands associated with the civil war in our area. Our staff and volunteers provide the opportunity for all who wish to learn about our shared history through walking the land that it happened on.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have helped to preserve more than 1,500 acres of critical ground on the battlefields of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, The Wilderness, and Spotsylvania Court House as well as Brandy Station. We continue to preserve hallowed ground and provide the community an opportunity to learn about our shared history, and reflect upon it, while exploring the land on which it happened.
