What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

We provide the following programs in the Community Learning Centers: 1) Computer Learning Center-pre-school thorugh adult 2)Pre-school-reading readiness, educational games, and recreation focusing on motor skills and social and emotional development 3)After School Program- K-4th forcusing on homeowrk, educational projects, and supervised recreation stressing good school outcomes. 4)Youth Leadership-pre-teen and teen focusing on academics, service, leadership opportunities in the Community Learning Center through mentoring, field trips, special projects, and fund raisers 5) Women's Circle-focuses on sewing and the development of microenterprise and economic education 6) Women's Leadership- promotes women's leadership opportunities and capacity building 7)Mealtime-two-four hot suppers per week to develop community and meet hunger needs 8) Supper program-all ages combines reading, sports, and the Youth Garden 9) University studnet volunteer program-50-75 students from Radford University and Virginia Tech Service Learning Programs are volunteer staff at the Community Learning Centers with four in service trainings: a)orientation, discipline though conflict resolution, c)White Privilege, and d)a simulation Life in the State of Poverty 10)Alternative Break Program--students from universities and colleges throughout the U.S. have come to Beans and Rice on their fall, winter, and spring breaks to participate in our programs and gain a 60 hour workshop/service certificate in Democratic Community Development with At Risk Youth. 11)El Centro de la Amistad-Hispnaic Community Learning Center providing translation, referral, labor exchange, community building, computer literacy, and English as a second langaue community learning activities. 12) In partnership with Literacy Volunteers of America and the Floyd county Public Schools, Beans and Rice is developing a ESOL/Civics program for adults and children in the county. This program focuses primarily on Spanish speaking residents.
