Alternative Medicine Foundation Inc

HerbMed(R) is an interactive, searchable electronic herbal database for professionals and public, providing hyperlinked access to the scientific data underlying the use of herbs for health. It includes six categories for each herb, such as Evidence from Clinical Trials, Warnings and Safety Data, and Mechanisms of Action. Developed, designed and maintained by the Alternative Medicine Foundation (AMFI), HerbMed is accessible at www.herbmed.org. A professional version, HerbMedPro is available for licensing and subscription access.

AskMed is a new fee-based service, started in 2003. People with chronic illnesses, complicated situations involving many types of therapy and medicines, and confusions beween conventional and alternative treatments, often need professional help in unravelling the information and deciding on the right course of action for them. Dr. Ladd Bauer offers such a service, through the Alternative Medicine Foundation. The basic fee is $80 per hour. An initial consultancy or resolution of quick questions is available for a set fee of $25.

TibetMed(TM), www.tibetmed.org, is a freely available community information network to keep scholars, researchers, practitioners, patients, and enthusiasts of traditional Tibetan medicine in contact and to continue the dialogue started at the First and Second International Congress on Tibetan Medicine (which the Foundation helped coordinate in Nov. 1998 and Nov. 2003). It includes sections on the history of Tibetan medicine, medical schools & training, conferences, courses and events, professional association and several pages of related links, and features Q & A with Dr. Nyima Youdon Namseling, and Dr. Tenzin Namgyal, both graduates of the Tibetan Medical & Astrology Institute in Dharamsala.

AMFI has also developed Resource Guides to Alternative and Complementary Medicine on many topics such as Cancer, Women's Health, and Choosing a Practitioner. The Guides are available on the web site or by mail. We rely on donations to continue providing these services and to support the development of further Resource Guides.
