What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Edgar A. Long Building Revitalization
The Edgar A. Long building was named for a prominent Christiansburg Industrial Institute Principal and Leader. It served as one of the main classroom buildings of what was once a 185 acre, 14 building campus. Christiansburg Industrial Institute educated students from across the United States from the end of Reconstruction in 1866 to its desegregation in 1966
Museum/Archives
Christiansburg Institute, Inc. preserves the documents, artifacts, and records of the Christiansburg Industrial Institute school, open from 1866 to 1966. We have developed a touring exhibit, staff a small museum, and give tours of the historic campus and remaining school building. Our Public Historian conducts archival research and develops educational postings on our organization's Facebook page.
Community Education
We provide community education programs around the history of Christiansburg Industrial Institute. These include public events, speaking engagements, programs for K-12 students, panel discussions, online social media exhibits, and movie/video showings.
