What we aim to solve
Haiti is one of the principal countries of origin of immigrants to the United States. Many have come for economic reasons to escape one of the poorest economies in the Western Hemisphere. Others have fled for political reasons. Haitian culture is quite distinct and less familiar to most Americans than many other cultural groups (Latino cultures, for example). Haitian culture and language is also quite distinct from that of other Caribbean peoples. Often these distinctions are not recognized. Most people in the U.S. have very little information about Haitian culture and history, and their perceptions of it are often influenced by simplistic Hollywood depictions. Many of these children become socially isolated, and the families live a life apart from their community. Educators and health specialists that have an understanding of Haitian beliefs about disabilities will be in a better position to build bridges for Haitian families, and to shape programs and services.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Department of Academic Professional Development ( DAPD )
Department Of Academic
& Professional Development ( DAPD ) program. In our program, The
child matched with an adult volunteer
mentor who will meet him/her at their place of workplace.
The volunteer act as
an adult role model and source of friendship encouragement, and professional
development. The activities between the child and the mentor will be monitored
by the Program Manager in charge of the relationship. We believe that all children
greatly benefit from having a positive working adult role model in his/her
life. We hope that through participating in the DAPD program the child feel
supported in making good decisions about their lives and their future. The
mentors in the DAPD that have volunteered for our program have been thoroughly
selected
Passport To Success
The Woman Passport to Success Project (WPSP) will prepare teen and adult women, especially those with dependent children, living in low to moderate income households, for entry into high-skill, Job- wage careers through the attainment of 6 months and one-year Certificate life skill training. The Passport to Success Project was implemented in 2016 to address the attrition and isolation which rural and immigrant low-income women experience in predominantly male and
work environments. The Passport to Success Project is comprised "Of
outreach, assessment, educational and core services, mentoring, peer and
internship placement." The proposed
WPSP will serve 40 new participants, and will continue to serve up to 10
participants currently enrolled, for a total target of 70 participants. Other
Passport to Success partners and affiliates include AMS's Future's Project of
mentoring, the First Haitian Methods Church, Orlando, Carrier Sources, which
been place many of people who is in government assistant to our office.
Mentoring
Providing mentoring programs for kids age 6 and high
school youth up to age 18. The program will form partnerships with local
Professional and the juvenile court system. ROICH's goal is to foster a
commitment to young people that will promote pro-social friendships,
strong interpersonal skills, and reassert a sense of hope in the
future. Only through personal relationships can a sense of individual
responsibility be reestablished that will give youth the commitment to follow
through on path to adulthood with a sense of pride and accomplishment.
Domestic Violence
While domestic violence crosses all racial, ethnic and economic boundaries, the problem is a growing concern to agencies
that serve Florida's Haitian community, and they fight to raise awareness of an
issue many still consider taboo. In March, ROICH Women to Woman In Distress
program formed a Haitian Creole support group in Orlando. It quickly filled up.
Sometimes Haitian women don't know where to go, ROICH who
facilitates the group at Women to woman In Distress and pounds the pavement
spreading information in the Haitian community. "In some cases the men are
the sole breadwinners and the women are intimidated."
Immigration status can complicate the issue. A woman who is here
illegally may be silenced by an abuser's threat to alert authorities if she
tries to get help.
Learning English For Better Living
Adult classes offered in hourly increments over
a range of subjects, including financial management, computer skills, parenting
and English as a Second Language. These classes were determined based on a
community interest survey collected during our food Bank distribution that
serve 950 individual, and the community needs assessment. The program offer at
least 8 different courses over a year time. Course content and offerings based on adult
learner needs.

What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
To accomplish
the objectives stated in the previous section, ROICH use the following methods. It was decided to follow this
course of action based on the expertise of the Executive Director, as well as
the success of similarly structured programs and organizations.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Sustainability ROICH has established a strong history of obtaining funding for our programs and is confident in receiving ongoing funding for the organization. Our organization is surviving from year to year through practicing strong financial efficiency and stewardship with the funding that we are able to obtain from Levy Restaurent by working at the consertion stand to raise money at the Amway Center during Orlando Magic’s basketball game. The organization is expected to have support of foundations for its continuing support. In addition to these monies, the Board will increase the amount of unrestricted funds for the program through direct mail requests and annual fundraising events. During 2016, the growth rate of the individual donor base is expected to increase exponentially. In upcoming years, ROICH will seek to obtain continuation grants from both foundations and corporate sponsors in an effort to continually provide up to date facilities, equipment, and social services. We will also be working diligently to acquire many in-kind donations. These in-kind donations will serve as an additional source of revenue for all programs. We plan to continue funding our organization in this manner as long as it is necessary.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
The services are offered once a week at a rented facility. During this time, participants are able to receive a donation of groceries and gently used clothing. The organization is able to donate a generous supply of rice, bread, and other nonperishable food items. ROICH has also successfully planned and facilitated . Citizenship Classes to educate Immigrant community who would like to become a United States citizen, These services may include, but are not limited to, the world of the government, the law enforcement. individuals as possible. Our organization utilizes local church facilities in order to provide all medical services and health awareness programs. ROICH also had the opportunity to serve over three hundred and fifty individuals in our English as a Second Language classes. Our organization has developed a comprehensive six week course that includes speaking, reading, and writing the English language. Our qualified instructors also spend time teaching each participant computer skills and basic life skills. , may include, but are not limited to, how to use the laundry mat facilities and banking services. We limited each class size to fifteen individuals at one time in order to ensure that every individual receives individualized attention. We do not charge a fee for this program. Our organization also offers a soccer program for students in America that are between the ages of five to eighteen years old. ROICH has successfully served over four hundred at risk youth since developing this program. The soccer program takes place year round at local community fields.
